It all began with a spark...
There was once a boy that used to dream. Circumstances beyond his innocent infant comprehension forced his family through difficult moments, going from one place to the next, switching schools, and starting anew a handful of times. The boy became a solitary child without friends and with not even a bed of his own at times, but he always had his dreams.
He unleashed the full power of his imagination across many lonely days and nights to enact the wildest fantasies — some based on heroes and worlds from television and video games, while others were entirely brand new. An old towel became his heroic cape, and a rolled and taped piece of poster board became his ‘sword.’
He travelled through numerous worlds, all full of wonder, adventure, and excitement.
The fearsome enemies he fought and vanquished were countless; some foes were so powerful and dangerous that the boy had to wield logic-defying powers to triumph over evil. These illusory adventures gave comfort to that lonely boy as everything around him changed, and not for the better.
The boy died one day, killed by the crushing weight of reality — his dreams, however, survived.
Years later, a lost teenager found the shattered remains of the boy’s dreams and held onto them deep within himself as if they were the greatest treasure in the world. Like the boy, the troubled teenager lived through an atypical life: always feeling out of place, alone, and with no friends beyond a group of strangers he shared online spaces with. The boy’s broken dreams accompanied the teenager across many dark, cold, and lonely nights, offering a bit of light, warmth, and comfort.
The teenager grabbed some of the broken shards and unsuccessfully tried to build something with them — life demanded that he reluctantly pursue other paths in which there is no room for dreams.
To the surprise of no one, the troubled teenager became a flawed adult; a melancholic man that does not amount to much and who is his own prison, his own worst enemy.
One day, as he walked through the darkest days of his life, the broken man retrieved what the teenager tried to build. He distilled it down to its basic elements and found that which he thought was lost, the essence of the boy’s dreams.
The man took that essence and combined it with the only things he had: his large list of woes, sins, vices, losses, and tears. He also put in what few virtues and triumphs he had to his name. Everything that encompassed the broken man bonded with the boy’s spark, creating a new illusory universe — an escapism from all the entropy and tragedies that surrounded him as he ultimately failed to save his mother.
The boy’s dreams would end up giving a small glimmer of hope to that hopeless broken man, even to this day.
Heroes, sinners, legacy, and hope
The “Vaifen Saga,” which I’ve also internally referred to as “Project Isthal,” is a passion project of mine that I hope can get published one day.
It is a fiction universe fueled by what is left of my lonely infant self and his grandiose imaginary adventures, built upon foundations laid upon during my solitary teenage years, and shaped by the reality that I live through for more than a decade, and which I have no qualms in saying, left me as a broken, flawed man.
Bastiel Isthal, the protagonist of this tale, is a man born in a now-dead world of heroes and legends. He is one of the last remaining Nasivern, a warrior-race of sinners redeemed by the grace of their mother deity, Sollente. Armed with blade and faith, the Nasivern once sought to fulfil their Eternal Mandate and serve as protectors of all life — until they were nearly wiped out by forces from beyond.
Bastiel grew up listening to the heroic tales and legends of his people as he lived among the humans of Orbis in the Nation of Vaifen, wishing to become a hero of his own like his family was. At the behest of his king, Bastiel joins Gestalt, a team tasked with protecting the Nation of Vaifen and stopping the unrelenting wrath of the Ashen Reckoning and its leader, a vicious man only known as Dogma.
Here’s a look at what I have planned for this saga:
“To fight for them, and for their smiles, is our duty, and our reason.”
Sword of Vaifen, the first chapter of this saga, follows the journey and exploits of Bastiel Isthal and the Gestalt team as they work together to put an end to the Ashen Reckoning and their leader, Dogma, a vicious and ruthless man hell bent on bringing the Nation of Vaifen to its knees.
As of March 2026, main work on Sword’s draft is finished at last following a series of back-to-back setbacks over the past years. And all that remains is to clean it up one last time, get it edited, and published.
For more information about Sword, including lore previews, please check out its hub page by clicking here.
“You are not the arbiters of truth — and yours is not absolute.”
Sins of Vaifen, the second entry, will be a more personal story that will see Bastiel and Gestalt face new challenges and push their limits to the extreme in their continued fight towards ensuring the safety of Vaifen and its people.
How one’s own actions and pursuits impact the lives of others, the perceived righteousness of one’s cause, and the clash of ideals is one of the themes I aim to focus on with Sins.
As of March 2026, I’m outlining some fine details as I start writing its first draft.
Stay tuned for more info!
“I will do what it takes to fix this, to make things right. I will damn myself in your name.”
Soul of Vaifen will be the conclusion to the first trilogy that will wrap up the first arc of the larger Vaifen saga.
“If we can preserve our spark, then one day our flame will light up the heavens once more.”
God willing, once Sword, Sins, and Soul are published I plan on rewinding time a little and tell a different story in this universe — one centered around the so-called Heirs of Sin, the Nasivern.
Nothing is set in stone yet, but my current plans call for two entries chronicling the devastation rebirth, and ultimate demise of the Nasiven race from the perspective of the Legendary Warrior, Isthara, and her son.
These will be of a completely different tone and setting than Bastiel’s first arc.
I am still years away from publicly talking about my plans for Bastiel’s second trilogy of books. I do have a general outline on where his journey towards becoming a hero will take him — and I do know how I want to name these three books.
This is, without a doubt, a dream for another time.
In addition to the main entries, I would love to explore and portray other aspects of Vaifen (and beyond) in other books and across other forms of content.
It’d be great to collaborate with other authors and cretors to bring these other facets of the universe to life, expanding and enriching its living world through new perspectives beyond my own.
A proper lore compendium is one of the things that I’d love to do for sure, with its own in-universe media snippets, advertisements, and all that cool stuff.
This is only an outline of what my plans are for this saga, and by no means is a definitive empirical chart.
A lot of work remains to be done, and a lot of roads remain to be walked.
Building this whole saga is a fight I want to fight while I still try to figure out what role God has in store for me in this world we live in.
I hope all of this served as a fine introductory appetizer to one of my greatest dreams in life.
Thank you for your attention,
-Kal
Sword, Sins, and Soul of Vaifen, as well as the Heirs of Sin duology and future sequels are all a work in progress.
Things are not set in stone and anything can be subject to change.
Every image, logo, and any other graphics that you see here are free placeholders until I am capable of commissioning proper art.
